Experienced Teaching

I’ve been an artist for as long as I can remember. My teaching has been informed by my lifelong creative practice as well as the ideas of many great artists and teachers. The beginning for all lessons is learning how to see. I am still learning, and I want you to learn too. I present logical exercises for building skills in drawing, color mixing, painting, and composition.

I have designed classes for you highlighting the things I love, so that you can see how to expand your art experience to include that which brings you joy. Interwoven in my teaching are lessons from historical and contemporary artists, nature journaling, botanical drawing, comparative anatomy, color mixing, and ideas from film, animation, illustration, literature, poetry, and science. I enjoy working with individuals, helping them find the wonder in what’s around them, and believe any subject can be enhanced by using the observational, organizational and creative skills learned through drawing and painting.
